I really enjoyed reading the book, and I became to understand the history of Russia better thanks to her story.

My overall feeling is of tremendous respect for Mrs. Nikkel and of awe because she endured so much, survived, eventually thrived and is living into old age!  She represents a generation that's quickly diminishing but her wisdom is desparately needed if this country is to remain great.

I spent around an hour searching an older atlas trying to decipher the escape route Mrs. Nikkel's grandmother took so that I could grasp how difficult the journey was.   With enough WWII movies you can start to grasp the fear and how it must have felt to be on the run.  As a wife I definitely know the feelings I would have towards my husband if he started talking in his best German to a German on the train while traveling to Switzerland and his actions lands us in a labor camp!  Yet, that couple survives and remained married.  In today's society that would be a divorce for sure!

The facts of her life and she lives a normal life here in Loudoun county, doing the daily normal activities. If you passed her in the grocery store, you'd probably not notice her.  If you did notice her, she'd register as just another older lady.

There is a small Book Club in Lovettsville, I'm gonna mention this book to them.   I also think this book ought to be read by US History students and/or Psychology students.  My son, the history degreed now graduate student, loved the book.  He thought the book made that time in history very personal and real.

Would I read this book again?   ......and again, and again and again.

This book is an amazing story of courage and perseverance. I thoroughly enjoyed the retelling of the trip to America through NY. Anyone interested in the strength of family would enjoy this book. Read this book again? Yes, definitely.

I have indescribable gratitude for the life I have been privileged to lead after reading the book.  It's hard to imagine such hardships in any person's life.  Kathryn and her family's ability to overcome such overwhelming and difficult circumstances are a testament to the human spirit.

I truly enjoyed the book because it was from the heart and so sincere. Kathryn is incredibly brave and owner of a pure and loving heart. Later in the book, we learn that Kathryn found the Lord, yet, when I think about it, the Lord had chosen her way before. Kathryn's unconditional, sacrificial and self-giving love for her mother confirmed for me that she knew the Lord. The fruit of the Spirit being love is what kept Kathryn moving forward.

On a personal note, I too, experienced the fear of an airplane flying over me,  as I ran with my loved ones to our bomb shelter in the backyard; the year was 1959 in Cuba. I, too, witnessed the pilot pointing the nose of the plane upward and sparing us. I, too, was saved by the love of God.

I would recommend this book to all those "wimps" that think they have it hard and to those who courageously face the perils of life's journey.

I hope to read it again!

I read Time Remembered, Grief Fogotten and did enjoy it.  I was really busy and thought that I would wait until things slowed down a bit before reading. Well, big mistake. I started to read it and in three days I had it finished. I have a cataract that is bothering me, so I would cover that eye and keep reading.

When I read Time Remembered I felt like I was really in the places that they talked about. It was that good.

"I loved Time Remembered, Grief Forgotten.  I liked it so much that I bought five books to give to friends as gifts.  I'm sure they will enjoy it as much as I did."
